People from non-EU countries can obtain a residence permit on family grounds in order to join their relatives living in Germany. This applies to spouses, partners, minor children, and in certain cases also to parents of minor children.
Requirements
Proof of family relationship (e.g., marriage, registered partnership, parent-child relationship).
Secure livelihood without social benefits.
Sufficient living space for the person joining the family.
Language skills: For residence permits under the FEG from March 1, German language skills are generally not required.
Existing residence permit for the reference person living in Germany.
The residence permit is temporary and depends on the validity period of the reference person's residence permit.
